Driving an EV is much more environmentally friendly than driving a petrol vehicle, which many of us already knew.

An analysis of greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles with different powertrains has been published by the UK’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).

A battery-powered all-electric vehicle is clearly the best option. The study examined emissions from the start of the production process until the end of the life cycle of the car. Over the course of its lifetime, a battery-powered car will be much better for the environment than any other powertrain, even when production emissions are taken into account.

Here is a rundown of the stats. Electric vehicles take the top spot, producing only 97 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.. Plug-in hybrids emit 128 grams CO2e per kilometer, hydrogen fuel cells emit 169, and petrol emits 275 grams CO2e per kilometer.

That is insane! I knew it saved some but I didn't realize it was this much.

My only concern really is the push into full electric for everyone, how that will impact the environment as things need to be dug up for these batteries and they are much larger than phone ones.

^ I have my concerns too.

I know that only so much electricity can be used and if I am not mistaken, most electricity relies on oil/gas to run things.

Yes, in terms of production and for certain charging units, this is true. Overall, it will still be better for the environment as much less will be used but in comparison to planes and ships, driving cars only do a fraction of the damage to the ozone. Planes by far do the most damage so we won't be making that great of an impact after all. Still, a 10% reduction is still a reduction.

I heard that but never looked into it. That planes and ships are to blame for most pollution so changing to EV cars won't do much overall but on the flip side, it will greatly help cities and more condensed populations. I think it should be a law that you have to drive electricity within cities. So places like London can only allow EVs, and electric public transport.

That is actually a good point. Maybe this is where the main focus should have started. It seems like they didn't really plan this out properly and now it is all displaced. At least prices are projected to come down for EVs since more companies are pushing them out now.
