Porsche is expanding production of the 718 model line to the multi-brand Volkswagen Group plant in Osnabrück to keep up with demand and likely prepare for the future.

Osnabrück is the same plant responsible for overflow production of the Cayenne. It will take time to prep Osnabrück for 718 production with cars set to roll off the line in the middle of 2023.

Porsche noted this expansion will not affect the number of employees currently working on 718 production at the car's current production facility in Zuffenhausen in Stuttgart.

I am seeing other brands do this as well. Some are expanding their factories and others are planning out big factories for their vehicles. It seems like the push for EV vehicles is finally here and some are estimating by 2030, 85% of drivers will be driving fully electric or hybrid vehicles!

I think these are amazing cars but I don't feel like a lot of people can actually afford them. It seems strange to be adding this much for a luxury car. Most people I know can't even afford the budget EVs right now.

They must have a market for it otherwise they wouldn't be making a second location for them.

I know it seems crazy to think people can afford such cars with everyone struggling out there but there are plenty who have enough or more than and can afford them.

I guess you are right but at the same time, factories this size imply they plan on making a lot of cars and it is only for the 718 model.

This could be interesting. Good for them. However, I don't see how they'll find enough workers to fill the job slots to power the expansion. It seems like every employer is on TV complaining about that lately. Maybe Porsche intends to pay them a living wage. At those prices, the car marker should be able to afford top talent.
