Why is there not more public EV charging stations?

In my area, I don't see very many of them and I often see people fighting over them. I drive a company vehicle that is fully electric and have had to wait for as long as 40 minutes just to charge up. There should be stations like there are for petrol. Surely they can find space for them.

I heard that many areas cannot keep up with the demands for them which to me, is ridiculous. The government wants us to be greener and people are trying to be but it has come with some major inconveniences.

I am not sure, honestly. Like I see them but it seems like there aren't enough. That was one of my concerns and is the reason I am looking into a good home charger because I feel like I would end up struggling to charge my EV without one. Where I live, I only see a handful of public charging stations.

Trouble is, a majority of these charging stations are owned by private companies so unless you work for a business that provides them, you will be stuck hunting some down out in the wild and having to fight over them now and again. I remember reading something like 75% of EV drivers in the UK alone say they don't feel they would be able to find a reliable public charging station.

Really? I had no idea about this. So private companies have them for private company use but the rest of us are stuck fighting over public ones. I mean I guess it makes sense to just charge at home but sometimes, we can be forgetful!

I don't know which area you live in. But here in Melbourne, Australia, there are plenty of charging stations available.

Also, how you're locating charging stations. I use Plugshare and Chargepoint. I love Plughsare the most, because it allows me to adjust filters according to plug type, output power of the station, and parking space.

For Australia, I use this link: EV Charging Stations in Australia | PlugShare (You can set your location)

If your major concern is parking, you can look out for a charging station with a parking space.

Also, do consider setting up charging point in your home. It will not fast as public stations, but still, you can charge overnight at your home.
